HIM
Update 2010
It's
been a while since I've written about what we've been
doing on the HIM scene. After traveling to Finland to
shoot the "Helldone Tour" over the New Year's
holiday of 2008 / 2009, it wasn't until this year that
the band came back to the US to support the "Screamworks"
album. My wife and I attended 5 shows for this tour,
starting in Philadelphia, and then up to Boston. The
band first did a signing in a south Jersey "Hot
Topic" store. No photos were allowed unfortunately,
but I did get to talk with their manager and he took
care of me on my passes for the tour. I had brought
a book with a bunch of my pictures to show off, and
got to show him what I've gotten so far. He was impressed
and gave me his approval. Well, after shooting these
guys since October of 2007, I have amassed an incredible
amount of shots. All along in my mind I am envisioning
a HIM concert photo book. It will be a look back at
the last few years of HIM performing. I want to make
it even more elaborate and I have a graphics artist
that is going to help me give it the look it deserves,
so it's not just an ordinary photo book. It's going
to take some time and money, but I know it will be worth
it as I have seen the devotion to this band and I think
it's something the fans will want in their collections.
Firstly,
I want to say THANK YOU to the band and their manager
Seppo, and to my friends on the crew and there in the
office. (I'm not sharing any names without permission.)
They have given us more than we could ask for as for
attending the shows. They have all been real friends.
I truly appreciate being given the access to shoot these
pictures not only for this project, but for the creative
outlet it gives me. When the band finished the tour
in New York City over 3 nights at "The Fillmore
- Irving Plaza" May 7, 8, and 9th, I shot all 3
nights. For the first 2 nights I was given special permission
to stay in the pit for the full show. That is very rare
that staying down there is allowed for that long. One
of the reasons it was very helpful to me is that I had
rented a higher end newer camera for the week. I wanted
to get the best pictures possible and have a camera
that would perform better in the low light situations.
It was worth the 400.00 rental. I got those beautiful
razor sharp pictures I wanted. I got some great ones
on my other camera too. (Yes, I lugged 2 heavy Nikon
cameras to all 3 nights!) I'm still trying to just look
through the pictures from those nights. I shot on 2
different media card types and there's at least 300
pictures on each (giving me around 1800 shots or more!),
plus I shot
one of the opening bands that we really got to like
called DOMMIN.
These guys are one of the best new bands I've heard.
And honestly in my opinion, the best new band period.
Him's stage tech and I agreed that these guys are going
to be huge. I really hope so for them. Please check
them out, you won't be sorry. I found out that they
are big MISFITS fans. Now The Misfits are good friends
of mine and I do their guitar work so I gave them some
swag. I also told Jerry of The Misfits about these guys.
I'm working on getting Jerry in touch with Him for a
possible tour together. Hey, it's worth a shot, right?
I know I'd get free tickets to that tour!
So, I hope you enjoy checking out my HIM update and
recent photos. I'm just sharing some and saving the
rest for my book!
Keep rockin always,
